Certified Dementia Practitioner (NCCDP), Certified Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia Care Trainer (NCCDP), and Certified Montessori Dementia Care Professional (ICCDP)
After her mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2012, Karen became passionate in learning as much as she could about dementia. This led her to a career path in dementia care, and Karen has since become a CDP, CADDCT and CMDCP. In her professional career, Karen has drawn from her personal experience to relate to the people she serves and their families. She uses the personal history and interests of people with dementia to problem-solve challenging situations that caregivers may be having with them. She believes in the power of music and other engaging activities not only for entertainment, but to help those affected by dementia function their day-to-day life.
Over the course of Karen's professional experience, she's found that dementia training is imperative. If you don't know how to interact well with someone who has dementia, it will make their and your day harder. Knowledge is power, and she considers herself forever a student, because there's always something to learn.
Karen likes to have interactive training sessions, so be prepared to have fun! :) At the end of the day, she hopes you walk away with some new ideas to share with your coworkers and communities.
